Ministry Title:                                   Church Relations Team Member

Ministry Objective:                           As a member of the Church Relations Team, mobilize and equip Christian churches in assigned area to become actively involved in sharing the eternal joy and hope of Jesus Christ through Operation Christmas Child (OCC).  Help meet the needs of church groups, represent OCC to churches and church events.

Requirements:                                     Spiritually mature Christian
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Connected to and knowledgeable of assigned geographic area
Committed to the ministry goals of OCC
Sensitive to the various Christian denominational differences

Responsible to:                                    Church Relations Coordinator

Relates closely with:                          Church Relations Team, OCC Project Leaders and Pastors/Leaders

Primary Responsibilities:                Within the OCC guidelines and within the assigned area:

  • As a member of an inter-denominational Church Relations Team, recruit, mobilize and serve as many churches as possible through OCC.
  • Ensure that assigned churches’ Project Leaders are equipped with necessary resources and training.
  • Cultivate relationships with participating churches by facilitating on-going and post-project feedback, providing necessary resources and securing the church’s future participation in the project.
  • Initiate relationships with prospective churches.
  • Make OCC presentations at churches as assigned.
  • Represent OCC as exhibitor at church and denominational events as assigned.
  • Maintain records of church participation and contact information on Project Leaders.  Submit new contacts and updates to Coordinator.
  • Attend Team meetings.

Level of Commitment:                      One season. May hold assignment for multiple seasons.  May be ended at any time by incumbent volunteer or SP/OCC staff.  One to five hours minimum per week, most likely increasing to a maximum of five to ten hours per week during August and September.
                                                                 

Required Training:                           Initial training with Church Relations Coordinator, Area Coordinator or OCC Regional Staff

Ministry Title:                                    Community Relations Team Member

Ministry Objective:                           Work with the Community Relations Team to mobilize and equip the community at-large in assigned area to become actively involved in sharing the eternal joy and hope of Jesus Christ through Operation Christmas Child (OCC).  Help meet the needs of non-church groups, represent OCC at conferences, and organize special events.

Requirements:                                     Spiritually mature Christian
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Connected to and knowledgeable of assigned geographic area
Committed to the ministry goals of OCC
Willing to serve a variety of non-church groups while not compromising the identity and mission of Samaritan’s Purse (SP) and OCC

Responsible to:                                    Community Relations Coordinator

Relates closely with:                          Community Relations Team, OCC Project Leaders and group/organization leaders

Primary Responsibilities:                Within the OCC guidelines and within the assigned area:

  • As a member of the Community Relations Team, recruit, mobilize and serve as many community groups as possible.

Ministry Title:                                    Media Relations Team Member

Ministry Objective:                           Work with the Media Relations Team to mobilize people, churches and groups through local media to become more involved in sharing the eternal joy and hope of Jesus Christ through Operation Christmas Child (OCC). 

Requirements:                                     Spiritually mature Christian
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Connected to and knowledgeable of assigned geographic area                                                                                                                 Committed to the ministry goals of OCC
Basic knowledge of Media Relations
               
Responsible to:                                    Media Relations Coordinator

Relates closely with:                          Media Relations Team, local media contacts

Primary Responsibilities:                Within the OCC guidelines and within the assigned area:

  • Work with the Media Relations Coordinator to identify and create a relationship-based media strategy according to annual media goals in order to communicate OCC through all appropriate media outlets (TV, Radio, internet, and print).
  • Utilize approved OCC resources (videos, messaging, literature, PSAs, news releases, etc.).
  • Seek required authorization for media partnerships, major media events, etc.
  • Attend Team meetings.

 

Level of Commitment:                     One season. May hold assignment for multiple seasons.  May be ended at any time by incumbent volunteer or SP/OCC staff. One to five hours minimum per week, most likely increasing to a maximum to five to ten hours per week during August through November.

Ministry Title:                                    Prayer Team Member

Ministry Objective:                           As a member of the Prayer Team, mobilize and equip persons, churches and groups in assigned area to become actively involved in sharing the eternal joy and hope of Jesus Christ through Operation Christmas Child (OCC) by providing prayer support for all areas of the project.  Provide prayer support for the Leadership Team and all levels of the ministry through consistent intercession. 

Requirements:                                     Spiritually mature Christian
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Committed to the ministry goals of OCC
Belief in the power of prayer
                                                                Understanding of the principles of spiritual warfare
Willingness to engage others in the ministry of prayer

Responsible to:                                    Prayer Coordinator

Relates closely with:                          Prayer Team, Pastors and prayer group leaders

Primary Responsibilities:                Within the OCC guidelines and within the assigned area:

  • As a member of the Prayer Team, support the Leadership Team spiritually and engage in intercessory prayer to ensure success at all levels of the ministry.
  • Distribute timely prayer requests related to all aspects of SP/OCC to churches and other intercessory groups.
  • Promote the worldwide impact of OCC by distributing Spiritual Impact Stories.
  • Promote the special OCC prayer events for assigned area: Quarterly Days of Prayer and Fasting and National Moment of Prayer.
  • Participate in organized prayer coverage at each collection site and commit to covering National Collection Week in prayer.
  • Attend Team meetings.

Level of Commitment:                     One season.  May hold assignment for multiple years.  May be ended at any time by incumbent volunteer or SP/OCC staff.  One to five hours per week.

Ministry Title:                                    Collection Center Team Member

Ministry Objective:                           As a member of the Collection Center Team, mobilize and equip people, churches and groups in assigned area to become actively involved in sharing the eternal joy and hope of Jesus Christ through Operation Christmas Child (OCC) by meeting the logistical needs of collecting shoe box gifts.

Requirements:                                     Spiritually mature Christian
Good organizational and communication skills
Connected to and knowledgeable of assigned geographic area
Committed to the ministry goals of OCC
                                                               
Responsible to:                                    Collection Center Coordinator

Relates closely with:                          Collection Center Team, other collection volunteers, donors

Primary Responsibilities:                Within the OCC guidelines and within the assigned area:

  • As a member of the Collection Center Team, you may be assigned one or more of the following:
    • Return messages left on voice mail system.
    • Ensure that Relay Center Coordinators receive their necessary materials for National Collection Week. 
    • Ensure that accurate and legible shoe box participation log sheets are completed at each drop-off location during National Collection Week.
    • Ensure that each donor is greeted properly.
    • Maintain adequate supplies.
    • Work with the Collection Center Coordinator to ensure that all shoe boxes are delivered on schedule from Relay Centers to the Collection Center.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Collection Center Handbook
  • Attend Team meetings

Level of Commitment:                      One season. May hold assignment for multiple seasons.  May be ended at any time by incumbent volunteer or SP/OCC staff. One to five hours minimum per week, likely increasing to five to ten hours during November and December (may increase to 10-15 hours during National Collection Week). 

Required Training:                           Initial training with Collection Center Coordinator, Area Coordinator or OCC Regional Staff

Ministry Title:                                    Relay Center Team Member

Ministry Objective:                           As a member of the Relay Center Team, mobilize and equip persons, churches and groups in assigned area to become actively involved in sharing the eternal joy and hope of Jesus Christ through Operation Christmas Child (OCC) by meeting the logistical needs of collecting shoe box gifts at the assigned Relay Center.

Requirements:                                     Spiritually mature Christian
Strong organizational and communication skills
Connected to and knowledgeable of assigned geographic area
Committed to the ministry goals of OCC
                                                               
Responsible to:                                    Relay Center Coordinator

Relates closely with:                          Relay Center Team, short-term collection volunteers, donors

Primary Responsibilities:                Within the OCC guidelines and within the assigned area:

  • As a member of the Relay Center Team, you may be assigned one or more of the following:
    • Ensure that accurate and legible shoe box participation log sheets are completed at each drop-off location during National Collection Week.
    • Ensure that each donor is greeted properly.
    • Maintain adequate supplies.
    • Work with Relay Center Coordinator to secure transportation (trucks, buses, vans, etc.) to transport all shoe boxes to Collection Center. 
    • Work with Relay Center Coordinator to ensure that all shoe boxes are delivered on schedule from the Relay Center to the Collection Center.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Relay Center Handbook.
  • Attend Team meetings.

Level of Commitment:                      Two months (October and November).  May hold assignment for multiple seasons.  May be ended at any time by incumbent volunteer or SP/OCC staff. One to five hours per week before National Collection Week, increasing to 10-15 hours during National Collection Week.

Required Training:                           Initial training with Relay or Collection Center Coordinator or OCC Regional Staff 
Annual Ministry Specialist training with Relay or Collection Center Coordinator
